Meet Dr. Alyssa

Dr. Alyssa Chimiklis is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in the treatment of eating disorders, ADHD, anxiety, and trauma in adolescents and young adults. She earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from The Graduate Center, City University of New York, where she received extensive training in ADHD assessment, intervention research, and evidence-based treatment under the mentorship of Dr. Anil Chacko, one of the country’s leading ADHD researchers.

She completed her APA-accredited predoctoral internship at MercyFirst with specialized trauma training before moving to San Diego to complete a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in the Adolescent Program at the UC San Diego Health Eating Disorders Center for Treatment and Research, one of the nation’s leading eating disorder programs. During her fellowship, she trained under the mentorship of Dr. Roxanne Rockwell and Dr. Lauren Salvatore, both recognized leaders in the field of eating disorders.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Alyssa is deeply committed to training the next generation of psychologists. She oversees didactic training for doctoral and postdoctoral trainees at the Eating Disorders Center at Cohen Children’s Medical Center and contributes to program development initiatives within eating disorder services. Her teaching emphasizes compassionate, research-informed care and evidence-based treatments including CBT, DBT-informed therapy, Family-Based Treatment (FBT), and trauma-focused interventions.

Dr. Alyssa is also a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) and Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher (RCYT). She has published peer-reviewed work related to ADHD, yoga, mindfulness, and parenting and presents nationally and internationally on eating disorders, ADHD, and evidence-informed complementary interventions such as yoga and mindfulness. Her scholarly work includes peer-reviewed journal publications, book chapters, and contributions to the Handbook of DSM-5 Childhood Disorders, including the forthcoming revision.

Her ongoing research focuses on mind-body interventions, emotional regulation, positive embodiment, and mental health prevention efforts for youth. Most recently, she has been involved in the development of a school-based program designed to support self-compassion, body image, emotional regulation, joyful movement, and overall well-being in middle school students.

Dr. Alyssa is currently a Fellow in Functional & Integrative Psychiatry through Psychiatry Redefined, founded by renowned psychiatrist Dr. James Greenblatt, where she continues advanced training in evidence-informed, whole-person approaches to mental health care. Her approach integrates evidence-based psychological treatment with mindfulness, yoga, and, when appropriate, functional psychiatry perspectives to support whole-person care.
